Do not be whirled about, but in every movement have respect to justice, and on the occasion of every impression maintain the faculty of comprehension [or understanding].

Be not whirled aside; but in every impulse fulfil the claims of justice, and in every impression safeguard certainty.

Marcus Aurelius, Meditations IV.22. Translated by George Long (1862). The Stoic Library.
