Book VIII · 24
Such as bathing appears to thee,—oil, sweat, dirt, filthy water, all things disgusting,—so is every part of life and everything.
What bathing is when thou thinkest of it—oil, sweat, filth, greasy water, everything revolting—such is every part of life and every object we meet with.
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations VIII.24. Translated by George Long (1862). The Stoic Library.
